There was a pandemic-induced professional hiatus, exacerbated by the selling of an old house, a nomadic type life of existence all of 2021, a newly built home to move into, and a new outlook of progress and hopeful new beginnings and fresh starts and most importantly a little bit of stability - and here we are with a brand new family photo session to show for it.
This lovely family wanted fun, casual, candid, and real photos with some wall-art-worthy posed photos sprinkled in. Oh my goodness, did they ever deliver on their goals. I was just there to capture it all as it unfolded naturally.
DON'T get me wrong - at first the session started with a very eager pup and a cautious toddler. Look at that handsome fluff ball and those "don't push me" eyes!
But we slowly turned that train in a different direction and got all the good shots.
This session was a really great example of how toddlers/kids/teens/partners etc may not always be up for going from day to day to in front of a camera, just like that. We all need a little time to warm up especially if we are feeling off. Unfortunately toddlers can't give us their words or emotions so we give them time and patience and they eventually give us their golden personalities... whatever that may be. It is always amazing to see the progression captured in the photos: upset and unsure, tentative but curious, keen but not ready to leave their safe space or "home-base", and then... "okay, we can play some games!" Eventually they won't stop hamming it up for the camera.
This session is also a really great reminder on how we don't need to go anywhere special to make magical photos for your albums. This session was all in their backyard. Right now is the best time and right here is the best place. Perfection.
This session was a dream, with some toddler leadership in between, but look at these memories we have frozen for this lovely family to hang on to and pass down for generations! This is what we do, we freeze it all in time to look back on, just how it is right now, nothing manufactured, nothing artificially infused. Real, Raw, Brave, Bold, and Beautiful.
So, what about you? Aside from toddlers not cooperating and less than ideal location rationale, give me one or two reasons why you shy away from family photos, one or two cautious ideas that are keeping you from booking with your family photographer. Let me know in the comments to create conversation, and then when you've finally decided nothing is more important than capturing right now - contact me so we can discuss just how to make your ideal session come to life.
